My new "the Rotarian" magazine arrived yesterday and, as is my habit, I poured a cup of coffee this morning and sat down with the magazine.  WOW!  It is full of stories that reflect the many lives of many Rotarians and the people they help.

The very first paragraphs of the very first article, "Eight Little Words", are still running through my mind.  To quote the article,

"RI President Ian H.S. Risely expressed his concern in the August president's message that we have "had a difficult time conveying the scope of our work."  Later he asks, "What does Rotary do?"   I'd (the author of the article, not me) like to offer an answer in just eight words.  The compact response is derived from posing three questions:
What do we do?  Where do we do it? How do we do it?

Consider:  What do we do?           Improve people's lives
Where do we do it?      Locally and globally
How do we do it?         Through Service

......we are a leadership organization with a deceptively singular focus:  Improve people's lives, locally and globally, through service.

I really can't imagine a better way to describe what Rotary is.  Let us continue, as a club and as individual Rotarians, to "improve people's lives, locally and globally, through our service."
