Rotarian John Biggs, Manager of the Emmett Food Pantry, gave us a report last week on the status of the Emmett Valley Friendship Coalition and the Food Pantry. The Coalition has been operating the Pantry, Tuesday Friendship Dinners and the Community Garden for almost a year now. The community has been extremelt generous in supporting their work to help our friends and neighbors who are in need.

John explained that the Pantry has a standing appointment with the Idaho Foodbank in Boise to pick up canned goods and perishables every Tuesday morning. The weekly distribution takes place on Tuesday afternoon. The pantry has been providing food for about 150 Gem County families. Since last February, the pantry has brought back about 93,000 pounds of food from the foodbank at a cost of just 4 cents per pound.

John also explained how important volunteerism is to an operation like this. He has a dedicated "staff" of about 8 volunteers who contribute a significant amount ot time to make the operation successful.

Anyone is invited to stop by Tuesday afternoon between 3:30 and 4:30 to see for yourself!
