.The Rotarians in the Rotary Club of Emmett who attended their regularly scheduled club meeting on Thursday, September 11th, received an unexpected but wonderful surprise from Paisley Warren, a Junior at Emmett High School, and Greenlee Clark from Idaho News 6.
Greenlee interviewed Miss Warren about her accomplishments and personal journey in completing and presenting her senior project a year in advance, as she had hoped to graduate early; unfortunately, she found out afterwards that she could not. Her senior project was to write a book of poetry and to have it published. The book of poetry included sixty of her own poems, poems that she wrote to reflect her emotions at that time. She titled the book, “The Anatomy of a Heavy Heart”. She drew illustrations on some of the pages, and because of a misunderstanding with a publishing company, she paid Staples to print and bind four copies of her book. Paisley learned, as we all do, the hard way, about what it takes to author, illustrate, and publish a book. She said it was her lifelong dream to write and publish a book, any book. She still wishes to find a different publishing company to publish her book, as she wants to get more awareness out about mental illness. Writing these poems gave her an outlet for her emotions, and she wants to help others who have been silent about the expectations placed upon them and the unwillingness of people to listen to what they have to say. Paisley invites everyone to read her poems on her Instagram account, midnightmetaphors_poetry23. After she graduates, she plans to go on a mission with her church, then to college to study psychology. She showed bravery by standing in front of a camera, a group of people she did not know, and appeared relaxed as she told stories of her journey with her senior project. We wish her the best and hope to see her around helping with service projects in the community. The interview aired on Friday afternoon, September 12, and can be viewed on their website.
