RI Pres-Elect John Kenny in Boise
The Emmett Rotary Club was well represented among the 500
plus delegates at last Friday's Rotary All-Club Luncheon at the BSU Student
Union. Bob and Gayle Fry, John and Linda Biggs and Terry Jones and his friend Doris Ann enjoyed a
wonderful luncheon and an interesting speech by Rotary International
President-elect John Kenny, from Scotland.
. Seventeen clubs from District 5400 were represented, which made our DG Gene Hoge very happy! Dignitaries from Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation were there from 7 countries. The luncheon was part of the Zone 25-26 Rotary Institute, which encompasses most of the Western US.
Mr. Kenny encouraged us to increase our membership, saying that growth is critical to continuing our efforts around the world. We have to find ways to make our clubs more attractive to young people. "We need more working hands, caring hearts and inquiring minds", he said. Rotarians exemplify the principals of high ethical standards, both in our personal and our professional lives.
Mr. Kenny's speech was laced with platitudes like, "If you wish to leave your footprints in the sands of time, don't drag your feet"..or "A Rotarian is someone who does not pass by on the other side".
Mr. Kenny concluded his talk by encouraging us to attend the 2009 Rotary International Convention in Birmingham, England, next June. See you there!
